Taking a bow at the Berlin Philharmonie with Sir John Eliot Gardiner and the Monteverdi Choir
In the last few years I have been fortunate enough to join the world of Baroque Music making.
It began when the English Concert asked me to be the soloist for the premiere of Jonathan Dove’s Köthener Messe and with that came some Bach Cantatas in the first half. The same year I was asked to sing the second Witch (typcast again) in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneus with Trevor Pinnock conducting and then performances of Bach’s Trauer Ode and Handel’s The Ways Of Zion Do Mourn in Germany directed by Andrew Manze.
This led to a recording of the Messiah with John Butt directing the Dunedin Consort. That CD went on to win much acclaim and won the ‘Baroque Vocal’ category at the 2007 Classic FM Gramophone Awards.
Out of the blue, I was asked to audition for Sir John Eliot Gardiner and the Monteverdi Choir and was fortunate enough to get the job. I went on to discover the core baroque repertoire with the group which has now been described by Gramophone Magazine as “The Best Choir in the World”.
I have since been invited to sing solos for the choir and feel blessed to have the opportunity to continue to learn so much and to be a part of such a wonderful group of musicians.
