Do you love to sing? Do you wish that you had more control over your voice?
Do you wish that you could choose how to communicate your music and then have the vocal skill to deliver that choice to an audience?
I have been a successful professional singer for twenty four years
I am currently a member of the Monteverdi Choir for whom I regularly perform as a soloist under Sir John Eliot Gardiner. I have been a member of Synergy Vocals for fifteen years. We specialise in Classical, Contemporary Music on microphone and work with such eminent composers as Steve Reich, Louis Andriessen, Steve Mackay and the late Luciano Berio. We perform with most major orchestras worldwide.
For ten years I was the Low Alto with the internationally renowned a cappella group The Swingle Singers with whom I performed concerts all over the world and made numerous recordings.
I have extensive experience in the recording session industry have sung on many films including Lord of the Rings, Shrek and Harry Potter. I have been a featured vocalist for Karl Jenkins, Tony Bennett, Roger Waters, Mike Oldfield, LL Cool J and Susan Boyle, to name a few.
Alongside my classical experience I have sung with many big bands including The Glen Miller Memorial Orchestra. I am an accomplished Jazz singer and work with Dave Newton, voted best Jazz Pianist in the British Jazz awards for the eighth time in 2008.
I have extensive stage experience in Opera and have performed, produced and co-written a one woman Jazz Musical with Michelle Magorian (author of Goodnight mister Tom) with music by Alexander Lestrange.
As a member of the Swingle Singers, I regularly co-lead choral workshops and masterclasses. I am currently a ‘Mentor’ for the Monteverdi Choir Apprentice Scheme helping young professionals in all aspects of performance.
With my private pupils, I have had great success in solving technical vocal problems. My teaching is based on re-connecting the voice to efficient breathing, eliminating tension habits and encouraging a natural, healthy sound. As I am also skilled in all aspects of performance, I feel I can offer a great deal in coaching and encouraging performers of all ages and preparing them for auditions and concerts. The heart of my teaching is developing and maintaining a sound technique and therefore enabling a singer to attempt all styles of singing without causing damage to their voice.
As I am still working at a high level within the music industry, I can offer pupils a great deal of highly relevant professional knowledge.
I am currently a voice teacher at the prestigious Brighton College.
